Built as a Georgian showpiece in 1832 for a visit by the young Queen Victoria. The Bulkeley Hotel is set in a stunning location within the heart of the quaint, bustling 13th century castle town of Beaumaris on the stunning Isle of Anglesey. This Grade I listed hotel, steeped in history exudes elegance and comfort, whilst assuring you a warm, friendly welcome and relaxed ambience.
The hotel’s prime position within the town affords its visitors majestic panoramic views of the Menai Strait and Snowdonia Mountain Range from many of its 43 spacious, well-equipped rooms and suites; all with en-suite facilities and some with four-poster beds. Families are also well catered for with numerous rooms which can accommodate a family of four and rooms with adjoining doors to cater for larger families. The hotel’s Bistro and restaurant offer childrens’ menus to cater for the younger visitors.
The Bulkeley dominates a prominent position in the island’s cultural heritage and plays host to a number of events throughout the year, culminating in its principal role in Beaumaris’ hot pennies traditions every boxing day. For many years, crowds gather in Beaumaris on this date to watch the town mayor throw hot pennies into the street from the hotel’s first floor balcony.
Steven Jones - Our Resident Artist
We are very proud that Welsh landscape artist, Steven Jones is based in the hotel. Steven Jones is a highly respected artist, whose beach paintings now sell throughout Britain and on the coastlines of Florida and California. The Harrods of Knightsbridge Gallery have exhibited his work and his paintings have been chosen for Tony Blair’s office during a European Summit in Cardiff.
Visit Steven’s gallery and take a creative journey into the local environment and beach life. His prints and originals are available to buy so you can extend the magic to your own home. Alternatively, visit one of Steven’s fantastic oil painting workshops where you can receive expert tailor-made individual tuition in the techniques used in creating Steven’s paintings.
Photographic Exhibition
The Llewellyn Suite also plays host to a small exhibition of landscape photographic images by Peter O’Reilly @ The Image Gallery, and the hotel currently have plans to extend this exhibition for other local photographers to exhibit and to introduce photographic workshops for budding photographers.
